Greetings all,
Over two months ago, Masters Aedan Alywyn, Alan Gravesend, Giacomo Vincenti, Geoffrey Gamble, and I put forth a new vision and mission for the Academie d'Espee with the intent of adjusting its form and function to better serve the needs of our members, and through us, Atlantia.
Since then, we have worked to incorporate feedback and address concerns on the original draft. Many interested parties have been engaging with us in this process. I am pleased to announce that we have reached a point where the updated version can be released for comment.
The new version has every change from the original highlighted for your ease. Most changes have been to add clarity or streamline areas that were found, upon scrutiny, to need it.
The remainder of our process is thus:
1) Comments will be open until January 1, 2021. All comments made on the document will be addressed, and what can be reasonably incorporated will be. Some suggestions or requests have been impossible to fulfill, so please understand that we cannot rewrite kingdom law here. Please understand that some requests may be contradictory in nature, and as such we will do our best to remain faithful to the spirit of the charter.
If you suggest any substantive changes, be prepared with your own suggested language for how to incorporate it into the charter, including cross-referencing every section.
2) Upon finalizing the charter, we will send it to Their Majesties Atlantia to be formalized. This will be the first time that the Academie d'Espee will have existed in an official capacity as a guild. Their Majesties have been made aware of this intent.
3) Upon its formalization, we enact the "Aedan Plan." The Academie slate is wiped clean, and all Atlantian fencers may choose to opt back in at their convenience and desire. In essence, this is a hard reboot of the guild membership.
From the charter update: "NOTE: Upon implementation of this charter, any member of the previous version of the Academie d’Espee (circa 1996-2021) may assume their same rank in the current version without a sponsor or prize."
So, if you are currently a Scholar, Free Scholar, Provost, or Master of the Academie d'Espee and wish to continue as such: congratulations, you do. The primary purpose of the clean slate is to ensure that everyone joining is doing so by affirming the content of the charter. It is opt-in and entirely voluntary.
